Introduction

Here, we will examine two very different features of language that provide tools and tips to the both teachers and students of writing.

• First, we will take five minutes to explore how notions of information flow and thematic structure can give students new perspectives about ordering their clauses and ideas.
• Second, we will discuss how free, online corpus tools can help students learning English as a foreign langauge can mimic what some linguists call native speaker intuition.
